The enclosures are interconnected so “The three As”, as they are called, are often seen in each others’ company, all three in a single den and sometimes all three in a single pool. They have wrecked two pools with their rowdy antics.

She is particularly fond of the keeper who works with her using operant conditioning to let her know she is safe and will have enough food to eat. Amanda’s brothers observe the training sessions and will mimic Amanda’s actions, possibly to get attention and treats as well.

Although she is the smallest of the three, she is very protective of her brothers and roars at strangers. She likes to watch her brothers play with a new toy. This is a typical photo of Amanda from the early days, where she emerges from her den to warn off ‘intruders.’
