Enrichment comes in many forms and the keepers at Safe Haven keep the tigers interested and stimulated with industrial strength toys, cardboard tubes with meat inside that the cats can carry around and destroy, and other natural treats like pumpkins and watermelons in season.

Choi Hu was part of an emergency rescue by Safe Haven Rescue Zoo in 2009. She had been kept at a private home in Seattle for a dozen years and was in danger of being euthanized when the owners lost their property. She had been declawed, which makes it unsafe to allow her to be with other tigers that have claws, in addition to causing lifelong problems with mobility. The American Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) together with exotic animal veterinarians has banned this practice as cruel and inhumane.

She now enjoys her life in a huge enclosure, complete with insulated den and shaded platform and a pool to play in.
