Amanda
Amanda is one of a litter of three cubs born in New Jersey in the mid-90s and moved to Texas in 2003 with her brothers Andre and Arthur. When the Texas facility went bankrupt in 2010 the judge gave the owners a year to find homes for the 400 animals housed there. As the deadline approached, Amanda, Arthur and Andre were facing court-ordered euthanasia if a home could not be found for them—along with 4 other tigers from the same NJ location.
This predicament was the origin of a search and rescue effort that evolved into Tigers in America. It involved many individuals and organizations, but Big Cat Rescue provided much of the knowledge, introductions to key players and an approach to identifying the tigers that resulted in their successful relocation.
