Home At Last

Oshana was part of the Species Survival Plan Program (SSP). Managed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the SSP’s mission is to increase healthy populations of captive endangered or threatened wildlife. Wildcat Ridge is one of only a handful of sanctuaries approved by the AZA to provide homes for these magnificent cats after they “retire.” At 11 years old, Oshana has earned her new life of luxury.

Keepers drove all the way to Utah to meet this beautiful cheetah from Texas and bring her to her new home in Oregon. After 36 hours in a crate, Oshana arrived a bit tired and nervous, but she relaxed quickly and had a good dinner her very first night.

She has settled in very well and is enjoying exploring her huge habitat, eating meals and snacks, and cautiously getting to know her fellow SSP alumna, Azizi. We are hoping that, in time, they will become besties. For now, we are thrilled that Oshana is here, healthy, happy and home at last.
