Seeing White
In 1900 there might have been 3 white tigers alive naturally in the wild, among the other 100,000 wild tigers. With only 5574 tigers left in the wild today, the odds of a white tiger occurring naturally are slim to none. The odds of a wild-born white tiger surviving to maturity and reproducing white cubs are zero. White coloration in a forest tiger is a birth defect, and there is not and never has been a species of white tiger.
Anything else you have heard, anything else you have read, is a LIE. The white tigers you see in entertainment, in zoos, in exhibits, in cub-petting operations, and yes, in sanctuaries are the product of decades of inbreeding—incest—to force the appearance of the prized white coat. And along the way, many orange tigers and white cubs too deformed to make money have been killed or discarded.
Commercial exploiters of white tigers will tell you that THEIR white tigers are naturally occurring and that new breeding lines have been introduced to make white tigers healthier. The damage has been done. Five decades of inbreeding are not reversed in a few breeding cycles in someone’s back yard. The white gene is deleterious and carries many genetic problems with it.
