Tigger arrived at Safe Haven in 2007, ribs showing, in poor health and filthy from living in his own waste. He had spent the first 16 years of his life as a backyard “pet” in a cramped and dirty 10′ × 12′ enclosure with only a rusty oil tank full of holes for a den and rotting road kill for food.
It is not unusual for animals in such situations to become fearful, aggressive, depressed or even to harm themselves. But tigers are amazingly resilient and Tigger was one of the lucky ones. Once at Safe Haven, he took one look around his new spacious, clean enclosure, complete with weather tight den, tiger lounging pool, raised sunning platform, and he was home.
