Romeo, a five-year-old white lion, belonged to a circus owner who kept him a tiny cage inside a truck and toured western Europe to perform. In August 2023, Romeo was in bad shape when rescued by the Belgian wild animal sanctuary Natuurhulpcentrum. Under their care and dedication Romeo began to recover. He gained weight, his cuts healed, and he no longer suffers from infections. The vets said he was OK to make the trip to South Africa to LIONSROCK Sanctuary, where he will have lifetime care in a spacious and species-appropriate surrounding, free from fear and the obligation to perform.
The plan is to socialize him with Nala, a lioness rescued from a circus trainer in France.
TIGERS IN AMERICA was happy to provide financial support to get Romeo home.
