Snow leopard Shree was born at the Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, Illinois. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Swimmer’s disease which caused her legs to splay outward, affecting her mobility. Although they were able to successfully treat her, she not able to participate in the breeding program. Shree was housed with a male but fighting ensued and they had to be separated. Miller Park Zoo did not have another habitat to move her to which facilitated her placement at Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary. Shree is only four years old and has a long life ahead of her as snow leopards can live as long as 22 years in captivity.
Tigers in America was happy to assist funding of the transport and future medical treatment of Shree in the care of Lynda Sugasa and her staff at Safe Haven in Northern Nevada.
